Why I practice differently - being an autistic OT

Identifying my neurotype had a profoundly grounding and calming effect for me. After decades of frustrating attempts to ‘fit in’ professionally and to accept my clinical identity, suddenly I was anchored in the understanding of myself more thoroughly.

With this understanding, I began to let go of the ways I masked that were no longer beneficial or needed. I stopped trying to fit in and instead, I settled into a sense of belonging as an OT.

I LOVE being an autistic OT.

In this audio [9:24 mins], I share a little more about this. And, bear with me, I riff about some of the ways I’ve noticed autistic OTs excel in their clinical practice.

Enjoy! x

If you’re an autistic OT and feel to share, I’d love to hear how being autistic enhances your clinical practice.
