The Be You Blog
Authored by Kimmy Lane - an autistic Australian occupational therapist with 20 years’ experience and founder of Be You OT - this blog provides evidence-informed, neuro-affirming guidance for late-identified autistic women and the clinicians who support them.
What is one way of recovering from and preventing autistic burnout?
Coping is often mistaken for resilience. But for neurodivergent women it can mean masking, pushing through, and depleting ourselves in environments not designed for us. This post explores how continuous coping leads to burnout, and why choosing to cope with less—by reducing demands and meeting our needs—creates the conditions for recovery, sustainability, and a more authentic life.
How do I know if I need body doubling?
Do you ever feel paralysed by the weight of ‘too much to do’? Body doubling is a simple yet powerful support strategy - often used by autistic women and women with ADHD - that helps reduce overwhelm, ease avoidance cycles, and create gentle accountability. In this journal entry, Kimmy explores how to know if body doubling might be right for you, who it’s designed to support, and why it can make tasks feel lighter and more achievable.
