An OT practice for women to be celebrated for who they truly are

When Kimmy Lane quietly founded Be You OT in 2020, she wasn’t trying to build an empire. She was aspiring to create a work space she could live an authentic, joyful and fulfilling life within. A space she could be her authentic self.

‘I’ve definitely created this,’ she says. ‘Although, the being of my authentic self is a gradual process.’ There’s a sense she finds this delightful. ‘I do!’ she says. ‘I love continuing to discover who I am underneath the masking to fit in. It’s like meeting myself again and again. Each time I feel a little more free.’

There’s no pressure to perform here. Instead, there’s something rare: the sense that you don’t have to explain yourself to be understood.

‘That’s one of the benefits of collaborating with a neurodivergent therapist,’ Kimmy says. ‘There’s a special kind of shorthand between neurodivergent women; a knowing. I can feel the moment a woman realises she doesn’t have to mask or explain herself here. It’s thrilling!’

Kimmy’s practice is less about functioning and performing, and more about feeling good and flourishing.

‘Functioning is a natural byproduct of feeling good and flourishing,’ Kimmy says. ‘So we begin there. It makes for a more effective and ethical therapeutic experience.’

The women who come to Be You are often carrying more than anyone sees: unspoken grief, years of masking, a nervous system on high alert… Many have succeeded in ways that looked good on paper while feeling a lack of belonging in their own lives. Often they are utterly exhausted. Kimmy greets them calmly and with a refusal to pathologise what’s simply human.

‘I want to live and work in a way that’s humane,’ Kimmy says. ‘I want the women I serve to feel held by the therapeutic process, not wrung out by it.’

OT at Be You isn’t about changing yourself. It’s about being yourself. ‘I called the company Be You OT because a fulfilling life is cultivated on a foundation of being yourself,’ Kimmy says.

You belong here. Just as you are.
