Clinical supervision for internationally-trained occupational therapists

Relocating to Australia as an occupational therapist brings excitement, uncertainty and a lot to navigate. Kimmy provides high-quality clinical supervision to support you from before you arrive through to general registration, helping you meet your AHPRA supervised practice requirements with clarity and confidence.

Are you looking for a clinical supervisor who understands what it's like to start again in a new country?

Supervision with Kimmy for internationally-trained OTs can help you:

Meet your supervised practice requirements as part of your AHPRA registration pathway.

Apply the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards confidently in your new context.

Understand how Australian systems work, including Medicare, the NDIS and private health funding.

Adjust to differences in clinical practice, documentation and professional culture between your country of training and Australia.

Build your professional network and a sense of belonging within the Australian OT community.

Work with a caseload that's graded to support your progression — appropriately matched in client numbers, complexity and clinical presentation as your confidence grows.

Feel supported through what is often a significant life transition — not just a professional one.

Thoughtful supervision

Kimmy supports you to reflect on the clinical and personal aspects of relocating and practising in a new country. She’ll help you process the challenges of this transition, build confidence in your new context, and stay aligned with your professional values and the standards expected of OTs in Australia.

Tailored support for your move to Australia

  • Before you arrive

Connect with Kimmy before you relocate. Early conversations help you understand what to expect, prepare for your supervised practice period, and feel less alone in the lead-up to a big move. At this stage, you’re given a link to a shared Dropbox, which contains resources and documents that will be used during the supervised practice period.

  • During your supervised practice period

Regular supervision sessions will support you to meet your supervised practice requirements and build clinical confidence in the Australian context. Kimmy maintains periodic contact with your employer to help the process run smoothly and efficiently for everyone involved.

  • Towards general registration

Kimmy supports you to track your progress, reflect on your practice against the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards and prepare to apply for general registration. For the latest detail on the registration pathway, refer to the Occupational Therapy Board's guidance for internationally qualified OTs

A human-centred approach to supervising internationally-trained OTs

Kimmy’s approach is influenced by her extensive experience that people feel integrated, fulfilled and whole when what they do meets their needs for being, becoming and belonging (as defined in the Model of Occupational Wholeness).

Supervision for internationally-trained OTs at Be You OT therefore aims to nurture you in your being, becoming, belonging and doing — across both your professional transition and your personal one.

Being

Being incorporates self-awareness, reflective capacity and identity. Kimmy creates a space for internationally-trained OTs to explore what it means to practise — and live — in a new country, while staying connected to who you are as a clinician and person.

Becoming

Becoming refers to ongoing development and clinical competency. Kimmy supports you to build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to meet the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards and progress towards general registration.

Belonging

Belonging emphasises connection — within the supervisory relationship, your workplace and the Australian OT profession. Kimmy fosters a sense of belonging to support your settling-in process and long-term career satisfaction.

Doing

Doing refers to the application of knowledge and skill in clinical practice. Kimmy supports you to adapt your clinical practice to the Australian context and embody your role as a registered OT here.

Working within private practice and the NDIS

Kimmy is skilled in supporting OTs working within private practice and the NDIS — settings where many internationally-trained OTs in Australia find their first roles. Funding systems and reporting requirements are unfamiliar territory at first, and Kimmy can help you develop competence in these as part of your supervised practice.

Kimmy can supervise you in:

  • Neuroaffirming and trauma-informed practice

  • Paediatrics

  • Adult mental health

  • Disability across the lifespan

  • Functional assessments and reports

  • Life skills therapy programs
